Noma Shields is the Founder and Executive Director of the Youth Sports Science Institute (YSSI), which integrates sports training with STEM/STEAM education for high school students using AR/VR technologies and smart watches.
Noma holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Grinnell College, where she incorporated data science into her studies. Awarded the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, she researched housing displacement and advocacy in Hungary, India, and South Africa, deepening her commitment to social justice.
With a strong background in nonprofit management and a focus on data literacy, Noma enhances YSSI's educational programs. She is also a dedicated youth and women's martial arts instructor, specializing in boxing and self-defense. Under her leadership, YSSI has partnered with organizations such as the YMCA, Columbia College Chicago, the University of Chicago, equipping students with essential skills for success in sports, art, and technology.
